Costa Rica has the opportunity to present the exposition “Libroarte 2012”, a fun thing to do in Costa Rica. This exposition shows around 70 artistic books from Costa Rican and international creators.
The books shown are different in all aspects; they don’t follow the rules of the exact meaning of “book”. These are transformations from a regular book to an artistic creation, and as such, is free to express whatever and however.
A few words to describe them can be daring, nostalgic, irreverent, romantic, shy, rebel, and above all intimate.
Roland Castelln, the exhibition curator said: “An artist's book is a unique craft item, unrepeatable, handmade with different materials and with a variety of purposes. It's like a reservoir of the author's creativity.
It’s said that among these book pages are personal journals revealed, scrapbooks, poems, illustrated stories, work logs, professional art works catalogues and kids stories.
Everytime the “tico” Roberto Lizano visits a place in and out of Costa Rica, he can resist the idea of documenting with pictures and a few notes of his experience.
“It is like a kind of illustrated journal since I rather drawing than writing. Anybody who takes a look to my book will know lots of my personality, lots of how I feel and think” confessed the artist Lizano.
For an artist so active like Lizano, an artistic book is also an excellent creativity exercise.
At the exposition appears books like the one with the personal agenda from Dr. Jorge Vega Rodriguez (1904-2001), a well-known surgeon in Costa Rica. There appear the doctor’s notes about the appointments with his patients and his personal notes.
On the other hand, the artist Fabio Herrera was tempted to break the simplicity and softness of a tapestry catalogue where he changes each piece with his owns lines and paint spots. Jennifer Macintosh made a kid’s book out of pencil, aquarelle and a string. Silvia Monge changed a pattern and made a book with glass pages where she let her pencil go freely.
This beautiful exposition opens today at 5 p.m. at La Galera Alternativa located at the USA embassy.
People will definitely take a last minute travel deal to Costa Rica to participate of this art. |
