You can choose from among several distinct settings for your meeting in Costa Rica, or design an incentive itinerary that covers one or more of the six major tourism zones.
The Central Highlands
Verdant valleys ringed by towering mountains, the intense blue of a tropical sky, the riot of color in luxuriant gardens and the caress of a spring-like climate... These are Costa Rica's idyllic Central Highlands, home to the majority of the population and the capital city of San José. It is the center of government, commerce, education and technology.

With its concentration of luxury hotels, the Central Valley is often the starting point or home base for incentive programs. Meeting planners have traditionally chosen this area because of the numerous venue options and choice of exhibition areas for trade fairs. However, we encourage planners to also look at other regions of Costa Rica as an option for both meetings and incentives.
The North Pacific (Guanacaste Province)
A destination within a destination, Guanacaste's cliff-rimmed beaches, Africa-like savannas and brooding, volcanic mountain chains make it an exquisite alternative for your event. Only a few hours by road from San José, Guanacaste also boasts its own, recently inaugurated international airport. There are also DMC branch offices in the area. Five-star beach resorts — away from the distractions of the city, yet offering every facility and service — increase the appeal.
Warm, sunny Guanacaste offers a whole range of outdoor activities, from scuba living to deep-sea fishing and golf, os well as a vibrant culture. Many of Costa Rica's most colorful traditions trace their roots back to the cowboy culture that evolved with ranching in Guanacaste. Marimba music, folk dances and the town "fiesta" — complete with food, music and rodeo — all originated in the dry northwest and spread throughout Costa Rica. So, too, lid the beautiful pottery of the Chorotega Indians who have lived in this area since long before the arrival of Spanish conquerors.
The Caribbean

The rain forests and waterways of Tortuguero, the Afro-Caribbean culture and coastal coral reefs provide a completely different and unique atmosphere in this part of the country. Steamy, tropical and slow-paced, the Caribbean coastal lowlands offer natural adventure and wildlife at its best. Most hotels, lodges and comes are small, intimate and set in lush tropical gardens or forests. Frequently offered on meeting-related tour programs, the area also lends itself to adventure and culturally oriented incentives for small groups. You are limited only by your imagination.
The Northern Plains, Central Pacific and South Pacific
Some of Costa Rica's major natural attractions highlight the remaining areas of the country. Arenal Volcano, Caño Negro, Monteverde, Manuel Antonio, Carara and the Osa Península — all have strong appeal for both pro- and post-tour activities and the incentive market. Hotel infrastructure in these areas tends to be small and distinctive. Choose from villas overlooking the ocean, boutique inns in the cool, misty mountains, spas with volcanic thermal pools and lowland jungle lodges.
An option exists for every client who wants a truly different atmosphere. Many of the facilities are fully equipped for small group seminars, workshops, training sessions and executive meetings. As an added bonus, the natural surroundings provide an atmosphere conducive to productivity and complete relaxation.
