During the first 9 months of 2009, Costa Rica registered the arrival of 601,830 American tourists that represented 40.7% of the total tourism incomes. This makes the United States the number one market of visitors for the national tourism industry.
Previous ICT data indicates that 83% of the American tourists who arrive to the Juan Santamaría International Airport come for vacations and pleasure. They stay an average of 12,5 nights.
The income of American tourists to national land showed a decrease of 6,9% during the first 9 months of the 2009 according to the previous year.
However, Ramos considers that 2010 will represent better conditions that will allow the sector to close with an increase of the
activity.
The effects of the economical crisis are being put aside and tourism is being reactivated. The confidence of the Americans to continue traveling is getting stronger, reason why the country should prepare tougher merchandise strategies to reach the expectations for 2010”, concluded Ramos.
