The Costa Rica Tourism Board (ICT) invites you Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th of November to the VI Fair of Community Rural Tourism, an activity 100% authentic to get to know Costa Rica through economic and natural offers, full of Costa Rican culture, tradition and taste. The activity will take place at the Costa Rican Art Museum located in La Sabana, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Those who assist can inform themselves over more tan 50 initiatives of Community Rural Tourism (TRC) in a fair environment full of music and typical food. Also, they can combine their visit with a Parade of Saints and farmers with their oxes that will start at the Leon Cortés Statue at 9:00 a.m. towards the Central Park on Sunday November 25th in coordination with the Municipality of San José.
The initiatives of the TRC (Community Rural Tourism) offer several options as lodging, in different zones with unique beauties as the Celeste river; agriculture, and motorboat tours through forests and mangrove swamps, marine fauna watching, observing turtles laying eggs, cultural tours, services of local tourism guides, traditional crafts with natural materials, and tours through Indian reserves, among others.
Recently, the President Oscar Arias signed a decree 33-536 MP-PUR, with which he declared the TRC of public interest. This instrument will allow these small companies to have a greater support on the part of the government institutions.
In the decree, community rural tourism is understood as all those planned and integrated tourism experiences sustainable in the rural environment and developed by the local inhabitants for the benefit of their families and their community.
The greatest part of these initiatives of this type of tourism are committed with the environment, conserving more than 10,000 hectares of forest and developing practices in harmony with nature as reclying and organic agriculture.
The companies dedicated to the TRC are all over the country and they were established as an answer to communities that wanted to conserve the wetlands and forests as an alternative for traditional peasant settlements that found a new option to improve their level of life or for organizations made up of women and initiatives in Indian zones where its own identity and auto management is respected.
Also at least 10 families per each company are benefited in a direct way, and at the same time it obtains productive links that promote the rural economy.
The VI Fair of the TRC is organized by the Alliance for the Strengthening of the Community Rural Tourism, constituted by the Cooperative Consortium National Ecotourism Network (COOPRENA) and the Costa Rican Association for Community Rural Tourism (ACTUAR) and the Central American Association for the Economy, Health and the Environment (ACEPESA), with the support of the Program of Small Donations of the United Nations (PNUD), and the Costa Rica Tourism Board (ICT).
