Running is one of the fastest growing sports in Costa Rica and for the past few years, trail running has grown tremendously. If you are interested in trail running, I'd like to tell you about one of the most fantastic trail-running races available in the region, the Ecogreen Cerro de la Muerte.

It takes place in the eastern valleys of San Jose, in the valley of San Gerardo de Dota, one of the most beautiful places in the whole country. And guess what, you still have time to book and participate, the race happens at the end of November, on November 23rd to be exact.

The race offers participants four distances: 5km, 10km, 21km, and 42km. Regardless of the distance, it is tough, very tough. The 21km includes a 1200m ascent in just 10.5km and a quick descent that is highly technical. Naturally, the change of altitude takes you through a variety of sceneries that are quite unique.

My favorite is a segment of the forest that looks golden! All the trees are covered barbudos, a yellow moss that captures drops of water and shines with the sunlight. The change of colors is so dramatic and the sparkle of the water drops so vivid, that you feel as the protagonist of a magical story.

San Gerardo de Dota is a paradise for bird watchers, one of the few places in the country where you can spot the Quetzal (the other place is Monteverde) and, with dozens of trails and hiking opportunities that take you to waterfalls and other magical places, a paradise of ecology tours. If hiking is not your thing, horseback riding is available.

The inscriptions for the race run out quickly, they usually don't last more than a week. We can help you secure a spot. Just give us a call or write to us on the form on the left side and we'll help you with your next vacation.
