During this month of June, the Department of Tourist Services of the ICT (Costarrican Tourism Institute) starts the coordination of the second stage of the Touristic and Road Traffic Signs that will include the period of time between 2009-2010. This second stage includes the roads: San José-Paso Canoas (with some detours), San Mateo-Palmar Norte, several National Parks, San Carlos, Sarapiquí, Guatuso, Los Chiles, Upala, Interamerican Highway, Santa Cruz, Nicoya, Carmona, Cartago, Siquirres and the complement of the circuit: Orosi Valley, Irazú Volcano, including Guayabo.
Up to date ICT has contributed with 1300 signs, which have been installed between 2007 and 2008, ending this way the first stage of the Program. It is expected to have 4000 signs installed by 2010. Some of the new signs will include: San José-Peñas Blancas, San José-Limón, some Pacific beaches, National Parks and the road between San José and Jacó.
“The impact has been very positive, we have received congratulations from private groups because now it is easier to locate main touristic spots, helping not only the tourist but also the whole community, for example the businessmen. Also, with the appropriate traffic signs the tourist is protected” mentions Victor Ramírez, chief of the Department of Tourist Services.
