For those who dont much about the Museum and Costa Rica history let me tell you the museum building was a well-known prison in the 19th century and is influenced by the neo-Gothic architectural style popular in Europe.

The facade recalls the strengths, located on a hill, protected by high walls and turrets of a defensive nature. The pavilions on the other hand, were a combination of radial and panoptic systems used in the construction of prisons in Europe, U.S. and Latin America during the nineteenth century.

The building stopped functioning as a prison in 1970, and in late 1993 the National Gallery was opened, then the April 27, 1994 opens the Children's Museum. There are several hotels in san jose costa rica just minutes away from the museum.
