In the study 14 hotels has been examined by the Rainforest Alliance and three of them are from Costa Rica.

The tourist business management under social and environmental responsibility policies it is a good business not just an utopia A study made by the international organization Rainforest Alliance shows that entrepreneurs engaged in sustainable tourism not only achieves financial returns also the employees who have a belonging sense and respect on the location where they work. As a result of a good Sustainable tourism the clients are going to want to come back because they feel they have a responsible tourism trip.

Sustainable Tourism Costa Rica CSTThe study named "Analysis of the benefits and implementing costs of good management practices in tourism businesses” was conducted last year by the organization in Guatemala, Belize, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Ecuador. To make this possible 14 companies are working to get positive results. In Costa Rica it evaluated the Hotel performance of hacienda Moravia de Chirripo (Turrialba) Hotel Villa Gaia and La Cusinga Lodge (both located in Peninsula de osa).

In the highlights data of the companies that join the program of Rainforest Alliance of sustainable tourism receives tangible benefits since they start to apply good management practices in environmental and social field, creating a network that provides everyone involved to be responsible with the environment they live. For example all recruiting initiatives surveyed small and medium enterprises (miPYME) to supply local goods and services, with an average of 20 tourism companies.

Moreover 64% stated this action only generates profits for the hotel in cost savings and 79% confirms that this inspires greater security and respect from the community to the hotels. The research is clear regarding saving of water consumption, energy, bulk purchasing and waste management. As a result that is why the tourism business reduces the cost of the operations.

For example, 71% of employers expressed a decrease in water consumption and the average saving in this item was over $ 2,700 a month. According Silvia Rioja Technical manager of Rainforest Alliance:
a 100% of the hotels considers the tourist attraction and destination quality improved thanks to the conservation of biodiversity. Moreover, preservation of natural areas has benefited to competitive position of the hotels and improved tourist destination.
Rainforest Alliance has been working for 10 years promoting good management practices in sustainable tourism worldwide. Nowadays, 320 hotels, 127 tour operators and 43 tourist organizations are working with the logo of the conservational organization, doing good social and environmental practices.
