The polemic in the United Atates by the reform of the health system promoted by Obama touched Costa Rica because one conflicted commenter “Radio Star” Rush Limbaugh, declared opposition of “Obamacare” who said that if the reform passes he will come to live in Costa Rica. After that, he went out and declared that if the plan was approved he will have his medical attention in private practice, and the reform was approved.
Radio Bussiness Report informed that two young people from New York gathered the money for the one way ticket flight on first class, not a round trip. The money was gathered only in 18 hours via ATicketForRush.com, by a $1 dollar donation. Originally, this site established a deadline to pick up the money up to April 30, but in few hours they gathered $1,158, according to these two young men, Mike and Patrick from Brooklyn. The site counted more than 62,000 visits.
The reason why Rush Limbaugh said he would come to Costa Rica to receive medical attention is not still clear. Everything points to the medical prestige and by the quality of the professionals here.
The image of the country, however, has won by this polemic. Multiple sites in internet mention Rush Limbaugh and Costa Rica, and media communications such as Univision, Newsweek and Christian Science Monitor (including all pages that poke fun at the commenter) have explained the conveniences of the country’s health care system.
