Tres Ríos, model for family and community tourism.
Tourism in Family (TURCASA) involves a singular experience; it was born in Costa Rica 16 years ago. With our participation as housewives we attend cultural-educational tourism from our own homes and have the community's participation. Tres Rios is currently a model for other countries.
Between May 22 - 25 we were visited by a numerous and exclusive delegation of Nicaraguan brothers wishing to learn first-hand from this experience, presented as a Central American encounter for local development, carried out in Masaya in November of 2007.
The visiting group was integrated by five mayors of that department, councilmen, businesspersons, tourism guides and promoters of projects for local development, sponsored by Cooperación Norte Sur, financed with funds from Austria and others.

During their stay they received advice from members of TURCASA, of Banco National with its project for development of micro, small and medium size companies (Mipyme), the Technological Institute of Costa Rica, Universidad National (transborder program for sustainable tourism) and the Regional Center for Productivity.
They shared in the homes of families of La Unión (mostly members of TURCASA), they even had the opportunity of buying at the farmers' fair (feria del agricultor), visited other counties and departed for their country with many productive ideas for their region.
"Now our work is preparing for the Second Tourism Mipyme Forum: 'The tourism Mipyme's facing the demands of globalization', to be held August 25 - 27 at Borceló San José Palacio in the framework of the fifteenth anniversary of the National Chamber of Businessmen and Businesswomen Owners of a Tourist Mipyme (CANAMET). We'll continue working for a local and sustainable economic development," said Emilia Fernandez Herrera, director and founder of TURCASA.
"We are very grateful for the support received for the attention of this delegation to the School of Lo Gma. the Civic Movement of Lo Unión, the Chamber of Commerce. Industry and Tourism of La Unión, its equivalent in Coronado. Banco Nacional, the Costa Rican Association of Tourist Guides, the Cultural Educational Group for Exchanges Entreamigos, Revisto Destinos. the S.Josselyn Educational Center, the Parish Nuestra Señora del Pilar, the project Natuquisa. ICT the Municipality of Lo Unión and its mayor among others," added Fernandez.
