New stage in the tourist sustainablility program, “CST” PDF Print E-mail
Starting in September, the National Commission for Accreditation of the Certificate of Tourist Sustainability Program is extending the program, previously exclusively for hotels, to all tour operator agencies.

In an official act at the INBiopark on Thursday, September 1st, the CST award-giving ceremony was celebrated for those new hotels showing that their functioning somewhat approaches the sustainability model, protecting and preserving the natural and cultural resources.

Those hotels receiving in 2005 a CST are: Divisamar Hotel, Amón Plaza Hotel, Best Western Irazú Hotel, Casa Camarona, Los Yoses Hotel, Samasati Hotel, Casa Conde Apartotel & Suites, Vesuvio Hotel, Parque del Lago Hotel and Almendros y Corales.

“In order to continue standing out as a quality destination, those offering tourist services must carry out their business administration with an awareness that the exploitation of resources, natural as well as cultural, may not be done in an irresponsible fashion,” pointed out Rodolfo Lizano, President of the Commission and Tourist Planning and Development Director of the Costa Rican Tourist Board.

Rolando Soto, from Casa Camarona hotel, declared feeling very pleased of obtaining the certification this year, since “it retributes the constant efforts of trying to put into practice the guidelines and recommendations, to become friendlier with the social and ecological environment we develop in.” He indicated being interested in offering national and international tourists visiting them, the best quality tourist product within the sustainability framework of sustainability and modern tourist development.

ICT is also launching a campaign with road advertising signs on strategic places of tourist interest, with the purpose of promoting a greater national awareness and among those coming to the country as recreation, of the importance of protecting the national culture as well as its flora and fauna, that make Costa Rica a privileged place, and thus a world fame destination.
