Local Airline gets zero-emissions certificate PDF Print E-mail
Don't forget to bring your camera. From the airplane you will be able to view each volcano, the green lushness of the national parks, the towns of the region, Lake Arenal and much more. The Sky Tour, a new tourist product offered by domestic airline Nature Air, provides you with this unique experience. Taking advantage of the short distance between several natural attractions of the Costa Rica, the airline has designed a tour of about one hour that, at a low altitude, allows you to enjoy volcanoes, national parks and other tourist destinations, mostly in Guanacaste.

In just about five minutes from takeoff, tourists can take in the views of Orosi Volcano and five minutes later the splendor of Rincon de la Vieja Volcano. Soon they can see the other volcanoes of the Guanacaste Cordillera before reaching Turrialba Volcano, the farthest one east in the Central Volcanic Range.

According to Marcos Duran, Sky Tour pilot, this is a great opportunity for photography lovers, as the plane only elevates to 1,000 feet (300 meters) — allowing cameras to capture at close range the volcanic craters, Lake Arenal, the thick mountains of the Tenorio and Santa Rosa parks or the towns along the route. The Sky Tour plane is a Twin Otter, a version of the Vista Liner that was designed especially to fly over Colorado's Grand Cayon for tour and photography purposes.

There are 19 seats available in each flight. Cost per person is around $180, which includes snacks and a certificate of attendance. According to Ana Nancy Elizondo, Nature Air account executive, the idea for the Sky Tour came out of suggestions by passengers of the company's regularly scheduled flights, who kept asking to fly by this and that volcano or even requested a charter service to carry out this type of excursion.

Not all times of the year are appropriate for viewing volcanoes from the air, as clouds sometimes spoil the scenery. However, when not all the volcanoes in the area are visible, the plane flies over other attractions along the coast, including Roca Bruja and areas near the border with Nicaragua where good part of Lake Lake Arenal, the Santa Rosa Homestead (a Costa Rican heritage site) and the lushness of the Orosi Volcano can be enjoyed from the air thanks to the Sky Tour. The Nicaragua can be seen including the Solenti name archipelago and the majestic Concepcion Volcano.

The best time of the year to see the volcanoes is from December to February. The Sky Tour will be offered daily starting on June 1 at noon, departing from and returning to the Daniel Oduber International Airport in Liberia. This is an exclusive service from Nature Air; other companies might offer similar tours, but as a charter service, which means the cost is much higher.
