During the week of September 19 to 27 it was held the I Cleaning Day Journey inside the program “International Coastal Cleanup” from the Ocean Conservancy. The idea is to call the attention of the civilians, the authorities and the enterprises of the country towards the imperative necessity of doing some cultural changes in relation with the solid waste management.
More than 3,000 volunteers went through all Costa Rica to pick up the solid waste generated by dwellings and workplaces. This kind of waste is affecting rivers and marine ecosystems of the country. They visited more than 30 urban or rural areas, parks, estuaries and coasts.
The initiative of the Terra Nostra Association (ATN, in Spanish) had the support of the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Environment, Energy and Telecommunications, the ICT, the Program “Paz con la Naturaleza” (Peace with the Nature) and the private enterprises.
