The regular train service from Heredia-San Jose, both provinces of Costa Rica, started working last Monday August 10. The service pretends to transport 5,000 people daily between Heredia (The province of the flowers) and San Jose (capital city) and vice versa in just 30 minutes. On Saturday, President of Costa Rica Oscar Arias Sanchez traveled on the first journey surrounded by cheers, laughs and wide opened eyes from a bunch of children from the PANI Costa Rica in Santa Ana. He let the children hug him and he also gave each of them a paper bag full of candy.

The train stopped in Cuatro Reinas (Tibas, San Jose), Santa Rosa (Santo Domingo, Heredia) and Miraflores and Central Station (both in Heredia). At each point dozens of people took the streets to watch the three wagons passing by while children waved flag from Costa Rica and yelled: “Ticooooooos, Ticooooooos!”

The train Apolo departed from the Atlantic Station at 10:19am after Rodrigo Diaz a priest from Sabanilla, San Jose blessed the machine. From the cabin of the train the president of the Republic of Costa Rica inspected the trails and in a few meter of rolling he spoke in the speakers to the children. When he took the microphone the president of Costa Rica revive his childhood when he wore short pants and had smashed knees. The train “brought me some memories of my childhood (…) being here and run into my primary school classmates who came to say hello is absolutely touching”, declared the president of Costa Rica.

President Oscar Arias Sanchez closed his day with an emotional speech making allusions that his life was a train loaded with fights and dreams. From the other side, Erick Lacayo, director of the Public Force of Costa Rica (Police), confirmed that there will be officers in the trains to prevent delinquency. With the disposition the thieves will think twice before getting in the train. Besides, the units have a capacity for 250 people each. They have internal video cameras, so the driver can detect irregular behavior and call the police. After two hours, he revealed why he ask the children to pray a lot. He just said: “I was driving”.
