Guayabo National monument is just steps away from being declared a World Engineering Heritage site, as nominated by the Technical Committee of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
The National Monument is located on the slopes of the Turrialba Volcano in Costa Rica and according to the investigation; this was once an important indigenous community.
The recognition is being awarded due principally to the road or ‘calle de acceso’ that is various kilometers long and built with stoned harvested from the river more than 500 years ago.
In addition and surprisingly, the aqueduct built in stone more than 700 years ago is still operating.
