Eugene O’neil Theater season 2007 PDF Print E-mail
The Eugene O’Neil Theater in the Costa Rican - North American Cultural Center (Centro Cultural Costarricense Norteamericano) is inviting the general public to its theater family program for the season of 2007.

Take note of the calendar of events and don’t miss what follows!

June 17th, June 24th and July 1st: Uvieta, a Theater and Mask show, based on Carmen Lyra’s story, called “Cuentos de mi tía Panchita” (Stories from My Aunt Pachita). Performed by ‘Cuatro Vientos’ theater group.

Uvieta is a farmer who confronts life’s problems with humbleness and kindness and does not lose hope or his sense of humor even in the most difficult situations. He experiences tragedies such as unemployment, hunger, fear, and loneliness, always combined with brave soul-searching ideas for answers, without denying the character’s humanity, defects and errors. A spicy story, filled with great humanity with a naïf and ingenuous meaning, where everyday conflicts show us the character’s decisions. Sometimes men can be heroes and sometimes they can be bad, but even when they are, they ca use the ability to think over and change the course of events.

August 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th: “Caminito del Mar” (Sea Path), written by J.F. Álvarez. This story won the Carmen Lyra Prize in 1998, awarded by Editorial Costa Rica. Between reality and fantasy, Clementina, the main character of this adventurous story, takes us back to the first stages of our life, where we discover the world step by step. Not only do we find beautiful experiences, but we also realize that life can be painful.

Learning to read, traveling in the Fantasy boat, being hungry, not understanding the concept of money, seeing a map for the first time, all these are metaphors for the children’s wish to live and the development that we acquire through knowledge, friendship and the truth: What better mates in this adventure that is life itself!

September 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th: Festival Circense (Circus Festival). Cirko Vivo Group. When we think of a circus we find ourselves before a show that captures the attention of adults and children. Especially when artists get together to create a show full of life experiences and emotions, sensations which can convey with plastic beauty, our ability to create a language that goes beyond words. Images, music and movement, to bring ideas from our senses to the hearts of all ages.

This show invites us to enter the fascinating world of circus with the expressive richness of its elements: Magic cube, contact (Crystal balls), juggling, clowns, etc., with special effects. The show is a vivid and meaningful life experience from a magic perspective.
