For the next months the new structure, that will be built, will have the capacity of receiving 1,500 passengers. Actually, the airport can only hold 900 passengers.
The administrator of this project is Coriport S.A. formed by five companies which invested $35 million. Coriport S.A. was elected by the Technical Civil Aviation Board (CTAC, in Spanish). These five companies are Houston Airport System (HASDC, from the US), MMM Aviation Group (Canada), Brad and Tod Company S.R.L.(Costa Rica), Cocobolo Inversiones S.R.L. (Costa Rica) and Emperador Pez Espada S.R.L. (Costa Rica).
The concession still waits for the approval of the Contraloria General de la Republica. The project will probably start in October and it must last 6 months to finish the terminal.

“The concession is during 20 years for the 22,949 meters square”, said Karla Gonzalez, head of the Public Works and Transportation Ministry (MOPT, in Spanish). The administration will charge $7 to each passenger during this time to recover the investment.
The terminal includes 2 levels. The main level (17,637m2) will be assigned to customs and migration, luggage management service, service passenger registration, waiting rooms (arrivals and departures) and airport and airlines counters. The second level (5,312 m2) will be for departure waiting rooms for the passengers, airplane accesses (4 gates), and government and airline offices.
This effort responds to the growing of the arrivals and the quantity of passengers since the airport was opened internationally in the 2002.
