The Costa Rican soccer has a 2011 Champion as Liga Deportiva Alajuelense beat Club Sport Herediano via penalties, to win their third championship in a row, the famous three-peat for the first time since 2004.
The game ended with a 1-1 draw, but in the penalties, it was the cold blood of the Alajuelense players the one thing that made the difference. Herediano hasn’t won a championship since 1994, and they have lost the last two finals against la Liga via penalties shots, which is heartbreaking.
“This team has always been strong. We know that our team is not liked by everybody, but we supported each other as a family forever, even they (the players) to me, in moments of weakness”, said Oscar Ramirez, Alajuelense coach.
“They were brave (the final minutes), as they always tend to be at the end. But overall I felt calm. Rather at times it was me who had to reassure Jafet (Soto, Herediano’s coach). Although in the end if I went a little bit crazy”, he added.
If you ever buy one of the vacation packages to visit Costa Rica, you should try to see a live soccer game. The environment is different what US citizens are used to, but it is great if you like to experience new things.
Also, several people haven’t met the new Costa Rican national stadium, one of the best attractions in the City. The stadium was donated by China, and it helps the Costa Rican team to host their World Cup qualification games.
Alajuelense and Herediano are two of the most important teams in Costa Rica; that’s why they met in the final. “We knew it was too complicated Herediano in their court. It was a tough opponent who always sought to attack. Sometimes outside, sometimes with long balls”, la Liga’s coach, added.
That championship was Alajuelense third in a row, and number 27 overall.
