Costa Rica leader in Global Innovation Index in Latin America |

Costa Rica is placed 36 in the ranking out of 82 evaluated economies. They were evaluated on technological advances sponsored by CISCO and created by the EIU (Economist Intelligence Unit). This study has a perspective for the next 5 years to remain this way and continue changing as long as the countries rise up the innovation rankings.
Among the criteria or the variables considered in this study are research expenses, education, telecommunication infrastructure, broadband insight, and political and commerce environment. Costa Rica foresees to rise up one place in this ranking within the next 5 years.
Argentina is placed in the second position followed by Chile. Mexico holds position 48 because of its dependence with the United States and the impact of the recession on its economy.
Japan and Switzerland still domain the first positions of the Global Innovation Index. During the next five years the emerging markets will get more technological advances, but the more developed countries will continue in the lead such as Japan, Switzerland, Finland, United States and Sweden.
The level of researching and development, conceded patents, labor technological capacity of the nations are among the measurements. The inform warns the effects of the economical crisis on the capacity to acquire new innovations with a possible growing of 2% from 2009 to 2013.
