Costa Rica took over Hawaii’s place as best adventure destination last year, as revealed by the publication Pacific Business News, of Honolulu.
An annual study performed among 6 thousand specialists in luxury travels, by the independent travel agencies’ network Virtuoso, shows that last year their clients favored Costa Rica, over Hawaii, the world-class destination.
To the question of what they considered the best adventure destination,17% of persons questioned, answered Costa Rica, while 9% chose the American island and 8% preferred Africa.
Likewise, among the younger travelers, 20% answered that they preferred Costa Rica, 13% Hawaii and 10% Alaska.
Finally, the study shows that travelers wanted to come to Costa Rica as first place this year, followed by Africa, Australia and New Zealand, South America and Vietnam.
In this part of the survey, Hawaii is not present; equally, it fails to be present in the report for best cruise destinations, by a large number of travelers.
The persons surveyed are of high purchasing power, which means they access first class services in whichever country they visit.
Similarly, on this occasion, the country was selected as the best destination for honeymoons, on the September issue of the American magazine Modern Bride.
This year, the web page Elmundoviajes.com selected Costa Rica as best adventures and sports destination worldwide, while last year the American Travel Agents’ Society chose Costa Rica to learn about it and train themselves to offer it as a destination.
Such acknowledgments confirm that the promotional work performed by the country, has allowed it to be positioned in an important place abroad, as a fashionable destination for Americans and Europeans.
It is this image which has motivated more airlines to fly to Costa Rica, which in turn increases expectations among managers, that 2004 will experience an increase by more than 10% in revenues due to foreign visitors in relation to 2003.
