According to ranking of world-wide Economic Forum
For a second consecutive year, Costa Rica manages to stay in the first place as the most competitive country in tourist matter in Latin America as ratified yesterday by the world-wide Economic Forum after presenting the international ranking. According to the Minister of Tourism, Carlos Ricardo Benavides, this result is extremely important for the positioning of the country as a destiny of quality at international level and imposes a greater commitment to continue working with more strength to fortify this sector of the national economy.
This result pleases us very much for this is the second consecutive year in which Costa Rica is placed as the first destiny of greater competitiveness in Latin America and in second position, considering the Caribbean. Certainly, this qualification forces us to redouble efforts to maintain the quality of the product that we offer to our tourists and to continue working hand in hand with the private sector, said Benavides.
The study performed by authorities of this important organization valued 130 nations in the entice globe; this figure includes six more nations than the ones considered in 2007, among them, Puerto Rico. The results of the Ranking of Tourist Competitiveness located the country in place number 44 of the list, which allowed as to surpass nations such as Puerto Rico (46), Brazil (49), Panama (50), Chile (51), Mexico (55), Argentina (58), Uruguay (61), Dominican Republic (63) and Guatemala (68).

If Latin America is considered together with the Caribbean, Costa Rica is in the second position of the ranking, being surpassed only by Barbados which is number 29. The world-wide Economic Forum considers three great parameters to formulate this evaluation: the regulatory frame, the enterprise atmosphere and tourist infrastructure as well as the natural, cultural and human resources in each country. In the case of the regulatory frame, policies and regulations concerning environmental matter, security, hygiene, health, among others, are measured, whereas in the enterprise atmosphere and infrastructure, airports as well as terrestrial routes, tourist plant, telecommunication and competitiveness in prices of the sector are taken into account.
Finally, in the scope of natural, cultural and human resources, human resources are mostly evaluated, such as the perception of the tourist with respect to the destiny as well as the natural and cultural wealth of the countries. It is worthwhile mentioning that the higher punctuations of the country were obtained in what refers to human resources; concerning tourist infrastructure in Latin America and the Caribbean, the first place was reached by Costa Rica.
