The International Surfing Association will organize the World Surfing Games sponsored by Billabong. It’s going to be held between July and August in Costa Rica, with the participation of 40 countries.

It was a great achievement to place Costa Rica among the nominees to be chosen as the seat of this event. The organization level of the Costa Rican Surfing Federation (FSC, in Spanish) helped to win this concession over other considered places like Brazil and South Africa. Costa Rica was also chosen because of its commitment to attend several world surfing competitions with complete teams.

The choice to give this concession to Costa Rica will also help many other countries to assist because of its location and for being one of the most liked surfing destinations in the world. This competition starts after the US Open California finishes. These reasons make possible the assistance of many pro-surfers to Costa Rica.

For the tourism sector this competition will be watched by 80 million people approximately via internet. This transmission would help to increase the 20% of surfing tourism that the country has annually.

Playa Hermosa, Jaco is the chosen spot to perform this contest during the best season of the year that generates awesome tides and waves.

It is expected to have a spectacular and colorful opening for the competition. It includes the participation of all contestants to the “sands of the world” ceremony, where all the teams combine sands from the beaches of the planet. At the end of the competition there will be a party of all nations with the participation of bands, DJ’s and fireworks in Jaco downtown.

“Jaco Adventure Land and Surf City” will be the slogan that pretends to attract investment in the city to reinforce the security and welfare of the visitors during and after the competition.

Many media communicators will attend this event and it will help the launch of “Jaco Adventure Land and Surf City” internationally.
