Costa Rica at the head of the World Tourism Organization PDF Print E-mail
Carlos Benavides, Minister of Tourism of Costa Rica, has been named as the new President of the Executive Council of the OMT the governing entity of world tourism composed of 154 countries.
This designation is a recognition conferred on Costa Rica by virtue of its good name and the projection we have on the subject of sustainable tourism. Our country has become the world wide reference point on sustainable development" stated Benavides.

He also points out that the country has not been stingy in its efforts pro conservation of natural resources, considering that tourists are progressively more demanding for products and services that respect the environment and that do not compromise future generations. Together with being a strong backing for those sustainability policies, the appointment is a directional signal for the world tourism market.

In addition, it is a great opportunity to reinforce the image and the positioning of the country at a global level and it no doubt places the country's tourism industry in a privileged position to better face the unstable international economic situation.
