Recently, Costa Rica and Chile began a bilateral cooperation agreement in sustainability. With it, the country is advising Chile about important topics such as the Sustainable Tourism Certification (CST, in Spanish) and climatic changes, explained Gina Guillen, ICT consultant.

Costa Rica’s ICT (Costa Rican Institute of Tourism) realized a conference in Chile in which there were different explanations about how Costa Rica has used the sustainability figure to be placed as a well-known destination worldwide. There were more than 80 people participating of this conference; State authorities and governors from all the country via video conference.
The motivation was directed to implement the certification as the government’s initiative.
We explained that sustainability is possible and worthy. Besides, this is a very important approach with a country that has always given so much to Costa Rica, and because internationally, Chile has been an allied and it shares similar values”, affirmed Guillen.
In the 2010, a Chilean delegation will be visiting the country to see the application of the sustainability criteria in the practice. Also, as a parallel topic, the second most important wholesaler in Chile was contacted to analyze the possibility to sell Costa Rica within its destinations. Likewise, there were some interviews with the media and the press to promote the country among the people in Chile.
