We are living in the most peaceful century in human history, but the Global Peace Index 2014 shows that in the last 7 years or so, there has been a noticeable deterioration in the level of peace around the world. Despite this unfortunate update that was recently published, is important to highlight that Costa Rica maintains its good position compared to last year.

The Global Peace Index measures the peace agreement with 22 qualitative and quantitative indicators. For this index, were evaluated at 162 countries from which Costa Rica is ranked as number 42 in both, the previous year (2013) and this year (2014). Some of the topics evaluated were: militarization, domestic and international conflicts, prison population, security officers and police, society and security, deaths from conflict, political instability, electoral process, civil liberties, among other items.

It is important to highlight that this study also points out that Costa Rica is the safest country in Central America and the third in Latin America.
Costa Rica eliminated the army in 1948, when it was in command of the country Don Jos Figueres Ferrer. The action was enacted in the 1949 Constitution, however it is important to emphasize that this demilitarization follows a long history that began in 1825 when special military and ecclesiastical privileges were abolished.

For this reason, a country of peace, Costa Rica has become one of the most visited tourist destinations around the world. The tourists wants to know how to live in a peaceful country without army, where they will be welcome with a smile and the famous phrase "Pura Vida". The people are nice, hardworking and honest. It is also rich in flora and fauna, ideal for a tropical vacation.
