The canton of Coronado, with the purpose of becoming a place for rural tourism, adventure and ecological activities took its first step to become the new option for hundreds of national and foreign visitors in the Central Valley.

Today, the First Canton Office of Tourism Information was inaugurated in the Central Park of the community. It was included in the Program of Tourism Counties, promoted by the Costa Rica Tourism Board (ICT). The Minister of Tourism, Carlos Ricardo Benavides and the Mayor of Coronado, Eduardo Herrera, took part in the event.

“Coronado is a beautiful canton, with many things to offer to national and foreign tourists. We are sure that in the program of Tourism Counties, the development of the activity can be well planned in order to recover Costa Rican traditions, rural tourism, ecotourism and adventure tourism” said Carlos Ricardo Benavides, Minister of Tourism.

The municipal authorities can develop, through this program, specific actions for human resource training, and incorporate different places to the initiatives of the Costa Rican Tourism Board (ICT), such as the Tourism Sustainability Certificate, the Tourism Declaration, Tourism Agreement and Ecological Blue Flag, among others.

Moreover, the program strengthens the decentralization processes, conservation of natural and social-cultural richness, modernization of the tourism plant, as well as the incorporation of the variable tourism in the urban regulator plan, pivotal aspect of the planning operations.
