Cocos Island amongst the Wonders of the World |

 Cocos Island, part of Costa Rica's territory, is currently competing against 300 natural monuments worldwide to be chosen one of the seven new natural wonders of our planet.
The foundation that nominated the island is called New 7 Wonders and throughout 2008 anyone can vote for Cocos island at www.new7wonders.com.
 Cocos Island In January of next year, 21 finalists will be announced. Once again voting will take place throughout 2009 and finally, in mid 2010 the new 7 wonders will be announced.
Cocos Island was nominated because of its large marine diversity and the many endangered species found there.
This small piece of land is located in front of the Gulf of Panama, in what is known as the Eastern Pacific and measures 23.85 square kilometers. It was designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO ten years ago.
