600,000 American tourists arrived up to September 2009
Spanish are the Europeans who visit us the most, especially because of the non-stop flights. Even the global economical crisis lived during 2009 and stronger in the United States, the Americans are still in the head among the tourists who visit Costa Rica according to the last cut in September.
- United States: 601,000 American Tourists entered the country during the first 9 months of the 2009. They kept coming even when their country was one of the countries that struggle the most with the economical crisis. Americans continued on the first position among the people who visit Costa Rica. The geographical closeness is one of the main factors for this situation to happen.
- Canada: 2009 was the 4th consecutive year in which the Canadians occupied the second spot of tourists who visit our country. From January to December there were 75,760 Canadian citizens in Costa Rica. It represents 5,13% of all tourists.
- Spain: Spanish citizens are the third group of tourists in the list. 37,257 people came up to September. Even tough Costa Rica is very far from Spain, the facilities regarding language because both cultures speak Spanish, it could be one of the main causes to be the first group among Europeans.
- Germany: Around 29,000 Germans visited Costa Rica up to the third trimester of the year. During four years, this country has kept the fourth position according to their origin. The beauty and the conservation of nature is what attract the most.
- France: the fifth place is taken by the French, with an approximate of 23,000 visitors according to the figures registered up to September 2009. The expectations were to pass the 34,600 French that visited the country in 2008.
- United Kingdom: With a visit of no less than 22,000 people, English were located in the sixth place among tourist who entered the country during the first 9 months of 2009. The flow of English tourists has increased. During 2005 Costa Rica received 26,000 visitors from the United Kingdom. Figure projected to be surpassed.
