Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve PDF Print E-mail
This reserve was founded in the 1950's and has gained international renown as one of the exceptional wildlife sanctuaries in the tropics. Its flora and fauna make this community a popular destination for nature lovers, and just as attractive are the pastoral landscapes of the area. To the southern part of the North Pacific Zone, Monteverde is parched high in the Tilarán Mountain Range. It is a cool spot filled with green all around, several private nature preserves nearby, a butterfly farm, and it also offers canopy tours and other attractions.

Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve Costa RicaThe cloud forest protected within those preserves is an incredibly profuse life zone where most trees are covered with veritable gardens of ferns, mosses, bromelias and orchids, more than 400 species of them with their captivating colors of whites, yellows and lilacs that make an incredible contrast with all the green of the forest. There are at least 400 bird species such as resplendent quetzals, collared redstarts and emerald toucanets abound. It holds over 100 species of mammals, 120 species of amphibians and reptiles and an estimated 2,500 species of plants. Monteverde and Santa Elena both have an excellent selection of hotels, restaurants and diversions. In Santa Elena you can find The Children's Eternal rain forest, the first international children's rain forest in the world.

Monteverde was founded by the Quakers who had teach their love for nature and care for the abundant species of this area. Everything you´ll do and anyway you´ll go you will be in full contact with nature. In Monteverde you will find one of the biggest cheese factory we have. There are tours that go from walks under the moon at night, to watch butterflies or the beautiful orchid farm, to frogs or serpents or the 36 species of hummingbirds that live in the area.
