Costa Rica - Protected Areas

Wildlife refuge is a geographic territory within which wildlife is protected. Wildlife refuges are generally officially designated territories, created by government legislation, though the land itself may be publicly or privately owned. These areas are subject to active intervention for management purposes so as to ensure the maintenance of habitats and/or to meet the requirements of specific species.
