 Pre-Columbian Gold Museum The 1600 pieces in the museum’s collection, of which 1000 are on display, date from 300-1500 AC. The art of making gold reached its zenith in 700 AC, when techniques were perfected and communities had artisans dedicated exclusively to working with gold pieces.
The museum tells us about the origin, manufacturing and techniques behind each piece. And if you are perceptive, you will know how to see in each work the Pre-Columbian indigenous imagery that combined representations of nature and main to with elements that comprise fresh, interesting Costa Rican mythology.
You won’t see just gold on your visit. The museum also boats an interesting collection of Pre-Columbian ceramic and stone objects; the Numismatic Museum, which illustrates the history of coins and currency in Costa Rica; and the temporary exhibition hall displays expositions that change every four months.
