A visit to this misty forest reserve is a wonderful journey unto itself. Armed with a naturalist guide, binoculars and a raincoat (just in case), you're ready for a great cloud forest adventure. The preserve spreads oven 10,500 hectares of land that hold six different life zones. The climate and terrain of the preserve produce an incredible biodiversity.

Monteverde Costa RicaMore than 100 species of mammals, 400 species of birds, and 120 species of amphibians and reptiles live within the boundaries of Monteverde. Delicate orchids, more than 400 species. grace the limbs of majestic trees. Their captivating colors of whites. lilacs and yellows contrast with. the emerald green of the leaves.

Bird watchers will be ecstatic with the birding here. Mixed feeding flocks fly through the forest, affording the chance to see a number of unusual species together. The resplendent quetzal is often sighted in Monteverde. Aside from the Monteverde Preserve, some other places merit attention while you're staying in nearby Santa Elena.

Try the Children's Eternal Forest, the first international children's rainforest in the world, or the Monteverde Butterfly Garden, to name a few. One spectacular way to view the forest canopy without much physical effort is the Skywalk. Some of the bridges hang suspended at over 130 feet making for truly spectacular views. The Hummingbird Gallery is a must for those with a penchant for these winged, colored jewels of the forest.
