The initial investment has been much greater, but we're in this for the long haul, said Carlos Gutierrez, the hotel's owner. We wanted to make sure we did things right.
Nature reigns inside this natural sanctuary, and the only vehicles allowed are golf carts.
We aim to show the Costa Ricans' culture and sustainable development with our project, said Gutierrez.
The hotelier has hired local artisans to build the exquisite wood furniture found in each room, and 80% of the workers have been hired from the surrounding towns. Additionally, Hotel Mediterraneus participates in community outreach programs together with Potrero.
A portion of proceeds go to funding local education programs and technical assistance for local children and residents. Additionally. Gutierrez is participating with other local developers to improve the aqueduct in Potrero, so the town can guarantee potable water for the next 50 years.
