Costa Rica: A natural favorite PDF Print E-mail
With scenic coasts on both the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean and one of the most carefully preserved, biodiverse ecologies on the planet, Costa Rica is now the most visited country in Central America. But its ever-increasing popularity has not spoiled this idyllic place.

In fact, the dramatic success of Costa Rica's ecotourism programs have enhanced and encouraged ongoing conservation efforts, making this destination an environmentalist's dream and a model for ecotourism worldwide.

On the forefront of the conservation movement, Costa Rica created its remarkable National Parks system in the early 1970s and continues to actively preserve its rich natural resources. Ticos, as Costa Ricans call themselves, not only value their natural blessings, but delight in sharing them with visitors. As warm and inviting as the country's glorious year-round weather, Ticos are eager to offer up directions, guidance, and insight at every turn.

Visitors who seek to experience the country for its culture and people can also take part in a special rural sustainability program offering total cultural immersion in local communities throughout the country. Costa Rica's stable economic and political environment makes it an ideal place to experience Latin American culture as well as natural wonders.

For travelers who'd like to take in a sunrise on the Caribbean and a sunset on the Pacific, a journey from coast to coast takes less than a day on the scenic highway through Braulio Carrillo National Park, a mountain paradise of exotic, exuberant vegetation.

Costa Rica TreeOn the Pacific coast lies Guanacaste, where dramatic cliffs meet gentle surf and sparkling sands of many colors and textures. The South Pacific zone is home to Mount Chirripo, the highest point in Costa Rica, as well as Golfo Dulce, a unique tropical fjord.

Despite its small geographical size comparable to that of West Virginia—visitors leave this beautiful country feeling that there is a lot more to experience and discover. No wonder so many visitors return often to experience the adventure that is Costa Rica, and to enjoy its scenery, its biodiversity, its vibrant culture, and the warm-hearted hospitality of its people.
