Climate change and watershed with space in blue flag PDF Print E-mail
The Adaptation to Climate Change and Watershed Management will have a new space within the Inter-Agency Programme, Ecological Blue Flag, this after the signing of two executive decrees that enable these new categories, signed by the President, Oscar Arias Sanchez as Witness Honor.

Programa Bandera Azul Ecológica Costa RicaThe delivery of these awards would not be possible without the National Committee of the Programme Blue Flag and local committees, but neither would be possible without the work of each community, school, business and every family that has decided to participate in the initiative.

Protecting our environment is not only a personal responsibility, but nationally and globally. The problems in one part of our planet affect us all, for example the impact of deforestation in coastal regions can result in flooding further inland; over-fishing in one part of the ocean, alters the balance of our entire food chain; Greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere anywhere produce global warming everywhere.

In my Government's initiative promoting Peace with Nature it will deal with deforestation, depletion of aquifers, species extinction and global warming. We must do something soon or there will come a day when resources are so scarce, and the planet' is so damaged that no other kind of peace will be possible, but the existence and worthiness of this certificate given to Blue Flag tells us by drawing on the national consciousness Costa Rica can aid in the development of a greener future.

Said Oscar Arias, President of the Republic The agreement was signed in the presence of the President of the Republic, by the ministers: Carlos Ricardo Benavides Tourism, Roberto Dobles Environment and Energy, Maria Luisa Avila Health, Silvia Viquez Deputy Minister of Education, and the Presidents Executives Ricardo Sancho Aqueduct and Sewer and Pedro Pablo Quiros of the Costa Rican Electricity Institute.

AYA Costa RicaFor Ricardo Sancho, president of Executive AYA, the program today represents the most important environmental parameter of the country, and is the graduation diploma in the protection of water and a measuring stick for the level of pollution in beaches, schools and communities, but also represents a challenge to the winners because from now on we should promote the sustainability of the award and we will be responsible for enduring the interests of the population and the development of the area is held hand in hand in harmony with the environment.

The World Day for Water, Blue Flag is a good initiative for introducing the issue of sanitation in the national agenda and in the lives of all Costa Ricans. From the ICT we will continue to work on the agenda of Blue Flag as part of our policy of sustainable tourism.

We consider it essential to preserve our clean beaches, monitor and promote the treatment of industrial and domestic waste to be discharged into the sea and raise awareness among citizens of the communities, hotels, chambers and associations adjacent to these areas and encouraging to join efforts to conserve our resources and keep them attractive to our visitors, said Carlos Ricardo Benavides, Minister of Tourism.

This creates the sixth category to adapt to climate change by opening opportunities for different people to participate in lowering power consumption and by planting trees. Blue Flag is a program that democratizes making decisions for the benefit of the environment and public health, reiterated Mora.
