Imagine yourself on one of the most exotic islands in Costa Rica drinking a cold beer while eating a couple of Oysters on the half shell, it just doesn't get any better than this!
Many of the people who visit Playa Tambor rent small boats that offer snorkel and island cruises to Isla Tortuga, one of Costa Rica's most famous tourist attractions where you'll find calm blue waters and beautiful white coral sand beaches lined with tall Coconut Palms. At Tortuga Island where the water is crystal clear, there are no waves or current to deal with making the snorkeling and swimming safe for beginners and children.

The small boats or Pangas that come from Tambor and Montezuma are the first to arrive at the island after taking a short ride along the coast and have the place all¡ to themselves for an hour or two before the cruise ships arrive. Due to the classical beauty of the Island, cruise ships from Puntarenas ferry tourists across the Gulf that they bus down from San Jose on a full day tour.
The ships arrive shortly after 10 am every day with tourists from around the world invading the beach with barbecues, tropical drinks and Marimba Bands. Let the party begin! It is not uncommon during our summer months to see oven 200 people sunbathing on the white sand beaches, snorkeling and swimming in the crystal clear water or dancing under the Coconut Palms at Tortuga Island.
Most of the time you can find an old timer named Moncho drinking a few beers on the beach while selling Oysters on the half shell for a buck a piece which he prepares with fresh lemon juice and Tabasco Sauce.
