Flowers! Almost everyone likes flowers. They are like people. They come in different colors, sizes and from all over the world. But they do not fight amongst themselves; they just love to bring joy to our lives. Here in Costa Rica we have an enormous variety of flora. There are places dedicated to farming flowers. There are people who export them and there are others who sell them. Flowers can talk. People have always said that their colors have meaning, especially roses. They say the red is for love, yellow is for friendship and white is for peace. And what about the rest of the flowers?
 They talk. If you give flowers to a loved one, they are telling the person that you love so much that you care. "Will you marry me?" If you take flowers to a hospital, they are saying, "We hope you feel better" or "Congratulations for the new baby!" When the situation is serious and you have to carry flowers to a funeral, they help you say good-bye. If you give a bunch of flowers to a winner they are saying, "You are the best!" Their delicacy can remind us of a tender touch, the softness of a caress.
Their aroma brings to us memories: good, bad, happy moments. Flowers remind us of life. Lots of textures, the most beautiful colors and wonderful designs that remind us that "variety is the spice of life". The role of flowers in our society is to help us feel good. They are in charge of bringing joy into mankind's life. Costa Rica has flowers all year long, as a miracle you plant them one in life time. That's the magic of the Tropic.
