The Murcielagos or Bat Islands are ready to be dived again! Although nature can be unpredictable, from May to September divers are almost guaranteed to see Bull sharks in the waters there.
Bull Shark Bull sharks occur in tropical to subtropical coastal and fresh water systems worldwide. Although they are top of the food chain they are a species under threat. They have a reputation for being aggressive and unpredictable due to their exceptionally high levels of testosterone, but there has never been an attack on a human at the Bar Islands.
The dive is one you will never forget. Bring your camera because sometimes it seems like the sharks are actually posing! On average, adult females are about 3.5 meters (11.5 feet) long and weigh 230 Kg (500lbs) while adult males are smaller and measure about 2 meters (7 feet) long and weigh 90 Kg (200lbs).
Currently, dive operators must have a permit in order to be able to register divers with Santa Rosa National Park and take them out. The park entry free is $6 per person. When you book your dive, make sure you get the entry ticket to show to park rangers.
