The Olive Ridley (Lepidochelys olivacea) is one of only two species of sea turtles that perform "arribadas," the massive nesting of thousands of sea turtles coming to one beach at the same time during three or four days under a new moon.
See Turtle Nesting In Costa Rica, there are two beaches where the Olive Ridley "arribadas" take place: Ostional and Nancite, in Guanacaste.
This phenomenon can be observed beginning in June and continuing through December. Unlike the lora sea turtle, the green turtle (Chelonia mydas) performs solitary nesting; individuals in the northern Caribbean also begin their nesting season in June.
Green turtles may be observed in Tortuguero, National Park until September.
