At the center of the Karen Mogensen Reserve, with 900 hectares of extension, you find Cerro Escondido Lodge, in the Peninsula of Nicoya. Visiting the lodge becomes an incredible adventure: To get there you walk spectacular trails surrounded by forest (you can also use horses).

And when you reach the lodge, there's an ancient wood house with a firewood stove and two cabins, each with two beautiful bedrooms; there's also a dining room and on educational area with magnificent views of the surrounding forest. The bedrooms are for 4 - 6 persons each. The lodge also has a collective room with a capacity for 10 persons, so in total it can lodge up to 25 persons.
In the teaching room reunions, seminars and workshops for groups are organized. Around the lodge there are various trails for hiking and two viewpoints from where you can see the Peninsula and the Gulf of Nicoya.
In the nearby communities you can get specialized guides that will speak of the species inside the Reserve, and if there's a group of over 8 persons, willing to walk for six hours, a hike is organized among the mountain forests, from the lodge to the community of Guarial de Paquera. The requirement for this tour is a very good physical condition to live this adventure.
This beautiful place is completely isolated, has no electricity or neighbors. Energy is provided by solar panels , with scenarios and a very special forest; but what makes this trip special is being attended by a family with 100% Costa Rican ways of life and where just arriving to the place is a compete adventure.
Velo de Novio waterfall and the pools offered by Blanco River are some unforgettable attractions you can't miss. One of the characteristics of this project is that what it generates economically is invested on the reserve's management or in environmental education process-es carried out in the region. This project promotes the participation and benefit of communities in the zone that originally did not have the opportunity to contact visitors from other countries.

At the highest point of the reserve a viewpoint has been constructed to help prevent forest fires, which also offers a great view of the Gulf of Nicoya. This hike through secondary and primary forest, is for bird lovers to move around 5 - 6 am on trails to identify some 240 bird species.
From the viewpoint you can also watch the nearby mountains.
It's 2 hours of relaxation, adventure and fun, to enjoy a beautiful and impressive waterfall of crystalline waters, surrounded by refreshing pools where bathing will be a pleasant and refreshing moment. Seating in a comfortable place you will enjoy a delicious lunch, prepared in the typical fashion: no discardable dishes, lunch is wrapped in plantain leaves, a quite traditional way used by our peasants, keeping it warm and giving it a very special flavor Cerro Escondido is a special place to enjoy adventures.
