Because of its tropical location, its position in the Central American isthmus and its topography, Costa Rica enjoys an intertropical climate, with agreeable temperatures and abundant rainfall, making it a very green country. However, each area has its own diverse microclimates, so there is a great variety of landscapes and forests.
Temperatures depend on altitude, reaching 55 degrees Fahrenheit in the high mountains and 90 to 100 degrees at sea level. The rainy or "green" season, from April to December, is referred to as the "winter" by Costa Ricans. The dry season, from mid December to mid April, is called the "summer". There is often a dry season on the Atlantic in September and October. In the "green" or rainy season, the mornings are usually very sunny and nature is at the height of its splendor. If you would like to explore Costa Rica at its greenest, take advantage of the sunny weather by getting up early!
