Large reduction of dengue cases in 2008 PDF Print E-mail
The dengue epidemic, which reached high levels in the country last year, experienced a 64% reduction in 2008.This is due in large part to the successful control and preventative measures implemented by health authorities.

DengueSo far this year only 5,180 cases of dengue have been reported in contrast with 14,377 during the same period last year. The areas with an increase in cases in 2008 are Limon and Puntarenas.

The strong response from citizens concerning the fumigation campaigns coupled with the educational strategy for the population in the high-risk areas, has accounted for the drastic reduction in the number of dengue cases.
