Do you ever get that unlucky feeling on Friday the 13th? You know better watch out because nothing good is going to happen?
Well, when the scuba divers at Rich Coast Diving set off for Catalina Island one Friday this January nobody expected too much from the trip because, hey, it was the 13th right?

Wrong! The diving was Ming-blowing! Catalina Island, which is a 40-minuteboat ride away from the Gulf of Papagayo, is famous for the Manta rays sightings, which take place when they arrive in December and stick around till May. With it being manta season, the divers saw plenty of rays-the wingspan of some of the bigger ones reached up to five meters. The mantas seemed in no hurry to swim away from the divers, as they apparently enjoyed the sensation of the bubbles tickling their bellies.
The second dive for even better. After their surface interval the divers were all dying to jump back in because a whale shark had just appeared and was ready to hang out with the static divers. It was a great opportunity to take pictures and have a good look at this giant creature that swam around them for at least 30 minutes. The whale shark is the biggest fish in the ocean and contrary to what you would expect, they feed only on plankton. This one was a juvenile about five meters long – a pretty humongous baby! Can you imagine anything more impressive than swimming alongside and hanging out with such a magnificent animal?
Well how about a giant shool of over one hundred devil rays swimming tight over you? To top the day off, the divers were screaming with joy when they actually sighted and got some good pictures of humpback whales that guided them back to Playas del Coco.
Back at the dive shop everyone was still excited and one couple even said they needed a couple of day to let this dive sink in because this was one of their best dives ever!
