As a hard core diver I am still amazed of the creatures we are able to see here in the Pacific Ocean. Many times I end up seeing something that is totally new to me, something I have never seen before. Just to hear the sounds of the hump back whales or dolphins, or coming around a corner of a volcanic rock and then seeing 10 white tip sharks leisurely hanging out in the current.
It’s amazing! The diving in Guanacaste is exciting and there is plenty of life. Due to the abundance of plankton present in the water, many fish call this place home. Big schools of various types of fish, turtles, rays and lots of porcupines can offer a great encounter to the divers.

Playas del Coco is a great place to arrange your dive trips. There are 3 dive centers including Rich Coast Diving. Local dives depart every day and organized trips can be arranged to the Catalina islands and the Bat Islands. The Papagayo Gulf in front of Playas del Coco offers more than 20 different dive sites, from a 15 minutes boat ride to Punta Argentina or 30 minutes boat ride to Meros.
Just remember the Pacific Ocean is not like the Caribbean, here the temperatures vary from 20 degrees Celsius to 29 degrees Celsius and the visibility ranges from 5 meters to 20 meters, but it is not how far you see, but what you see. The colder waters bring schools of big stingrays on the dive sites and the little visibility favors the Giant Manta rays, schools of more than 50 devil or cow nose rays, and spotted eagle rays.
If you take a closer look you will spot different seahorses, nudibranch, and the famous clown shrimp. White tips and scorpion fish, frog fish and if you are really lucky you might see the whale shark. Join us on a dive and be captivated with the large biodiversity that these amazing reefs offer. The reefs that are on and around the volcanic rock formations of Costa Rica's Pacific Ocean are waiting for you.
